Polop or Polop De La Marina, to give it its full name, was originally the capital of the region until the nineteenth century and the towns historical and cultural legacy is clear to see in the town centre and the surrounding area. The town encircles a magnificent 12th Century castle originally built by the Moors and latterly inhabited and developed by the Baron of Polop. Other places of interest are the Moorish cemetery, The Zooology Museum and the Casa Museo De Gabriel Miro. Nowadays this small hillside town has given up its importance to the much larger coastal cities and has a population of around just 4,000. Located 13km inland from Benidorm is ideal for those looking for a more rural village environment but don't want to be too isolated from the modern conveneniences of the towns and cities. 

With a permanent population of around 21,000 La Nucia is Polop´s larger next door neighbour and whilst its old town centre holds very similar charms it is also has a very modern and progressive feel.
