The Costa Calida which has a literal translation of "Warm Coast," is a 250km stretch of Spanish coastline located in the region of Murcia. The region is often described as having its own “micro-climate" with high average year-round temperatures and low average rainfall, around just 34cm per year. In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world. On average Murcia experiences 320 sunny days each year making it an ideal destination at anytime of the year.

This diverse and relatively un-spoilt region of South East Spain is less developed and more laid back than its better known neighbour The Costa Blanca. It extends from San Pedro Del Pinatar at its most northern point to the port city of Aguilas in the south. The most suitable locations for families and retired couples are Torre de la Horadada, San Javier, San Pedro Del Pinatar, Los Alcazares and Cartagena.

In addition to its numerous regional natural parks, stunning mountain ranges and culturally rich cities, the region also boasts a unique feature of having a coastlines on two seas. The Costa Calida offers beach resorts on both The Mediterranean and The Mar Menor (Lesser Sea) which at around 170km² is actually Europe's largest coastal saltwater lagoon. The Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a 22km strip of land known as “La Manga"(The Sleeve). The resorts here on La Manga strip are more developed with greater seasonal variations in visitor numbers than most of those on the interior of the Mar Menor which remain popular all year. The Mar Menor is non-tidal and very shallow (only 8m at its deepest) making it ideal and safe for families with younger children. Furthermore, it is also on average 5 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean.

As well as a growing popularity with foreign tourists and buyers the Murcia & The Costa Calida region is also one of the primary producers of fruit and veg in Europe and is often referred to as the “Market Garden of Europe."

During the last 15 years Golf Tourism has been a key driver in the continuing increase in foreign visitors to the area and now boasts around 20 championship courses and luxury golf resorts all located within a 20 minute drive of each other. The Nicklaus trail, incorporates 6 Jack Nicklaus designed, 18 hole championship courses such as The Mar Menor Golf Resort, La Torre and El Valle are all multi-leisure, Floridian style, gated resorts with luxury new build apartments and villas offering idyllic living and fantastic golf and countryside views. The region is also home to Lo Romero Golf and Hacienda del Alamo which is one of Spain's longest golf courses and of course the world famous La Manga Club.
